Week 9

What’s Up?

  • In math students are finishing up their unit on story problems, although we will continue to work on them throughout the entire year.

  • We will begin a new module in our reading curriculum. The focus for the next several weeks will be on understanding the moon, sun, and stars. This ties in beautifully with our next science units entitled Sun and Shadows and Moon and Stars.

  • Our new skills work this week includes high frequency words some, come, and love. We will focus on reading suffixes -s and -es, and review previously taught patterns such as kn for /n/, /i/ spelled y, and ending blends such as lt, ck, and mp.

Ask Your Firstie

  • What do you already know about the sun, moon, and stars?

  • any real life story problems you can think of such as: Your sister has 9 stuffed animals. Your brother has 4. How many more does your sister have?

  • Are your headphones working?

  • Can you count by 2s, 5s, 10s?
